The Boutiques & Designers I’m loving right now.

It’s no secret that shopping is my happy place and expressing myself through clothing brings me joy. So, when I am shopping I love to find that fantastic piece that can be unique to me. There’s often a misconception when you’re a curvy girl that you can’t “Boutique” shop.  I myself for the longest time use to feel like I could never walk into a boutique and find anything in my size, or I thought that the girls in the store were thinking “why is she in here”.  I have discovered a bunch of amazing boutiques and smaller luxury brands that not only have a large range of sizes but the girls in these shops are super helpful and fun to shop with….so much so that I barely even shop at department stores anymore and haven’t for quite some time.  Below are a few of my favorite hidden gems. Don’t worry if you’re not in NYC they all have websites which you can shop from too

A Piece Apart– 403 Broome Street, NYC

What you’ll find:

Flowy dresses, easy jumpsuits, tops, and pants with generous cuts.   Some pieces are more structured and a little edgy while others can feel down-right girly, and all give an effortless chic vibe.  Luxe fabrics and pretty prints are always on the hangers and they now have extended sizes through 22 which makes me love this brand even more.

Matta– 241 Lafayette Avenue, NYC

What you’ll find:

The prettiest light as air boho chic dresses made from hand crafted fabrics by women from all over the world, as well as unique leather bags and one of kind jewelry pieces.  Every time I wear a piece from Matta people stop me and compliment me on my dress.  They run up to size XL in most pieces and have a generous cut.

Mara Hoffman– Shop Online

What you’ll find:

The perfect high- waisted skirt, pants, or beautifully tailored dress.  Gorgeous fabrics and long- lasting sophisticated staples with just the right amount of edge.   Mara Hoffman has been known for her swimwear for many years but her ready to wear has recently expanded over the last couple of years and so has her sizing.  Many of her pieces are available up to size 20.

Rachel Comey– 95 Crosby Street, NYC

What you’ll find:

Edgy unique pieces that scream distinct style.  The fabrics range from knitwear to silk, long skirts and embellished pieces that are unique to the brand.  They have recently started extending there sizing up to a size 14 but I find this brand to run a little on the fuller side in many things.

Bird Brooklyn – 85 Lafayette Avenue, Ft. Greene Brooklyn

What you’ll find:

This boutique carries virtually every smaller clothing designer and a few of the larger ones. From dries Van Noten, Black Crane, Ace & Jig and beyond. There is a vast selection of everyday pieces and specialty items. I usually find newer emerging designers here as well. The girls at the Fort Greene location are my fav’s but they also have stores in Williamsburg, Park, Slope, and Cobble Hill.

Ace & Jig– Shop online

What you’ll find:

The most incredible textiles with the look and feel of a well traveled life. All of the patterns are unique to them with the look and feel of vintage textiles. The cuts of the clothing are simple and timeless, with shapes that look great on every body type. I love this brand for a unique ethnic inspired piece that will last for years to come. They also have extended sizing up to 2x.
